Live From the Great State Fair
Live from under a tree eating a funnel cake and drinking a beer at the state fair. A big shout out to my wife Julie who chickened out in coming with me to the fair to be my designated driver. I also want to state again and have photographic evidence of half price beer. Also the funnel cake I am eating is a bit doughy and has too much powder sugar. Looks like the concession stands have started their rookies the last day of the fair. I'll try to keep a running blog of activities if I am able.

New Camera
I just received in the mail the Oregon Scientific ATC2K Action Cam. I bought it for my paintball adventures but before I take it out to do paintball combat I took it for a spin with Lucy the Beagle.
What I want to do is try to fix it to my still camera similar to the movie "War Photographer" movie.
This is my first test with the camera and as far as I can tell the audio is horrible the video quality is very good. The version you see above is horrible because YouTube compresses the video even more. You can see it in higher quality if you visit my YouTube channel at GPaynePhoto's "Picture Paintball."

I am kicking it up at the State Fair of Texas. Drinking Texas tea,

Mueller tent.

My lens will destroy them all.
As I type FIU 42 UNT 3. A horrible game fir my alma mater. So far so
good on the photos. The light here is horrible also. Hopefully if they
get a new stadium that will be resolved. I also need to look up NCAA
rules about video on the sidelines. I think I got told some bullshit
today.

Football, Volleyball and Football
I would have had three days of straight football this week ending with today's college game but I opted to shoot a volleyball game on Friday to break things up and not get pig skin'd out. Today I am shooting a college football game. I am hoping for some good pictures and I will also be keeping an eye out to find some feature art in the parking lot particularly body painting if I can find it.
I'll try to blog from the field if I have time before or after halftime. I may be too busy to do it.

Last Night
My wife and I treked to Scenic Drive in El Paso on our last night in the Sun City. I lived most of my life in this city and never did I travel to this point to take a picture.
Which brings me to my point.
If you have lived in a place all your life you should try to look at your surroundings however mundane with the eyes of a tourist. See, I have seen this sight of downtown so many times but not like this. So what was once old is new again.
I hope to keep this perspective and mindset when I return to work from vacation.

Chico's Tacos
I've been in El Paso one full day and dived into two chile rellenos for lunch at a place called the Lunch Box in the Lower Valley and two double double orders from the illustrious Chico's Tacos.
To put that into perspective a single order from Chico's is 3 flautas. A double order is 6 flautas.
My tummy is warm from the sauce and I am watching the Cowboys.
Life is good.

Damn the iPhone, but it still rocks.
(Photo by Jonny Carroll) I can take a picture with a 400mm lens and hold it steady at slow shutter speeds. But for some reason in the picture you see of me trying to take a photo during a timeout of a football game i could not hold the iPhone steady enough to take a somewhat sharp photograph. Yes I know it's because the phone is compensating for the crappy light at the field thus the blurry photo. My company 400 is going to the shop for repair. It's a work horse lens for me. I use it for sports and spot news. I take good care of the lens I guess the constant use of the lens wore out the parts.
Next update will be a soccer game on Friday then my vacation the following week. Maybe even some paintball.

Borrowed 400 and
Well I am back with a borrowed 400 as I patiently wait to shoot the University of North Texas, Tulsa University football game at Fouts Field. The only thing that will drive me crazy at this field will be the shadow that will come across the field at around 7pm. Its not to big of a problem but drives me batty because it's at least a four stop difference.
I will try to post from the field before or during a break in the game.
It's an hour before game time. Time to get the game face on.

Quickie pic
Well my company 400 stopped working so I had to switch to the 300.
Here is a quick picture between plays at the high school game I was at
tonight. Hopefully I can borrow a co-workers lens for tomorrows
college game.
